Before going into CAD to start modeling a blade our team decided that it was best that we first complete extensive research into the area of wind turbine blades. After learning about all the incredible ways that kinetic wind energy can be harnessed, such as sending balloons high up to harness the faster winds and bladeless energy devices that use the wind to create a voltage potential between two wires, we determined that the best option for our given challenge would be to develop a wind turbine blade as this method is extremely efficient and simple compared to the other methods. decided to design our blade with a airfoil shape to increase the efficiency of our blades. Our team next determined that to use a airfoil shaped blade would maximize the efficiency of it. Over the next couple of weeks I then created multiple blades to run simulations on. In the end I ended up choosing the a 3 blade twisted airfoil shape for the optimum design which I then entered into the bonus challenge and won.
